Vision Testing

Vision Testing

I remember the day I discovered the need for glasses. I was 15 years old, just coming up to the sixth month mark, and I would be eligible to take a class called “behind the wheel.” A whole world of independent opportunity was within my grasp the day I got my driver’s license.

One problem, I failed the eye test. No wonder I was plagued with headaches and squinting to sharpen things blurry. My vision was “off” because I was looking through eyes that couldn’t focus on distance. The day I tried on my “corrective lenses” (that’s what the DMV called glasses) I was astounded at what I could actually see from a distance. The building across the parking lot from the doctor’s office actually had lines between the bricks visible for the first time to me. I cannot remember what I was happier about, the now-passed driver’s licensing test, or my sight! I think I talked about my sight for a year.

The spiritual application is worth pausing over. When was the last time you had your vision tested? One necessary discipline of a Christian is his ability to see Jesus. Because when we “see” Jesus we can endure…we can finish…we can become…we can be merciful…we can have patience…we can be kind.

Seeing Joy from a distance, Jesus endured the cross, (Hebrews 12:2) “for the joy set before Him he endured the cross, despising the shame.” His vision grasped the joy of the finish!

Pastor Cathy will be joining me this Sunday as we begin our new series entitled, “The Strength of Joy.” I am so looking forward to these moments with you. Joy has such wonderful expressions as laughter, humor, smiles, and tears. (Yes, there are tears of joy).

When life has a way of testing your patience, commitments and integrity, your “vision” has to be sharp. Don’t let the devil blind you…we have corrective lenses!

See You in Church,

Pastor Greg
