The Cure?

The Cure?

How do I fix “spiritual boredom”? It was a devotional topic that caught my eye and piqued my interest. Perhaps that is what “the church” is experiencing.  Thinking about empty classrooms and seats on a Sunday or Wednesday night had me finishing the article. The author targeted what James wrote:

James 1:22 The Voice (VOICE)
22 Put the word into action. If you think hearing is what matters most, you are going to find you have been deceived.

The danger with our techno world is we can hear, satisfying an itch but never accomplish anything of eternal value. Consequently we are “deceived thinking we are spiritual” but bored or have “been there, done that” filling our lives with anything but Jesus.

Becoming a follower of Jesus, means you are a “doer” and not a “hearer” only. Here is the cure…check up on deception. Take a look at your spendables (i.e., “check book” or “debit card receipts,” “in the car drive time,” “energy and creativity” let alone “stress.”) How much “spending” is pointing you to the “true foundation” for life versus fixing the lamenting of a childish whimper crying boredom?

Boredom is nothing new in the church. I heard it from my earliest days of ministry. My youth group never came up short letting me know what they thought. I listened, adjusted, and found excited kids when they actually started to “DO” the gospel instead of just listening to it! It cured a lot of boredom.

This deception is not limited to parents with children…but can affect even the most faithful and successful in the church.
