Unless….You

Unless….You

The words of Jesus always find a way to challenge our limited way of thinking:

Unless you…are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

That’s right; converted and childlike allow for an innocent expectation for something to occur. As a matter of fact, “entrance” and “into” are not permitted unless a childlike trust occurs.

Perhaps this is what film-makers, authors, and poets have tried to capture in their artistic skills. C.S. Lewis uses the word Magic to describe Narnia’s attraction to children. By the way, he qualifies the word in its truest sense, meaning…deeper!

I am challenged many times over to remain or become childlike in Christmas due to some pretty complex issues. Without a childlike pursuit of something deeper, I could easily become the offspring of Old Scrooge himself!

We face heartache, confusion, broken promises, disillusionment, and hopelessness each year. Many times those years culminate into a massive file of unfinished business. Yet this is why Jesus came, and what He came into. For the most part, many missed this first coming, and others down right rejected Him.

I want to remind and challenge us together. Converted is a change in mind, and childlike is a deeper trust. Let’s enter Christmas with humble expectations. Something good is going to happen! Jesus always has a special place for children: a boy with lunch, a little girl who needed to rise, and a warning against anyone causing little ones to stumble.
